IMC Worldwide is extremely proud and humbled to have won the Association for Project Management (APM) Award 2018 for the Overseas Project of the Year category. Winners were announced yesterday night in London. Beating off competition from major international companies like ODEON and Citibank, our Fael Khair project in Bangladesh won for its social value and for the rigorous and complex management undertaken to implement the overseas project.
The Fael Khair project, funded by the Islamic Development Bank, is running since 2010 following the catastrophe of Cyclone Sidr in 2007, which affected more than 8.9 million people. The project aims to build over 170 large scale schools in the southern coast area of Bangladesh that also function as community shelters for families and cattle affected by disasters during the cyclone season. IMC is managing the delivery of the project, from site survey and infrastructure design up to completion, up to date IMC has completed 116 schools with the remainder due for completion in 2019. The project includes key sustainable components, such as solar panels, rainwater harvesting systems and durable school furniture. The shelters can resist wind speeds of 260 kilometres per hour and are planned to be long-lasting. Carefully selected construction materials ensure durability, resilience and low maintenance.
Gavin English, Managing Director at IMC Worldwide says: “With Fael Khair, IMC delivered schools-cum-cyclone shelters to low-income communities vulnerable to disasters all along the remote southern coast of Bangladesh. We are absolutely delighted to see our dedicated people who delivered this programme gain this prestigious recognition in the sector of project management.”
Mohammad Nasir, from the village of Chargumari, in the Bhola District says: “During cyclone time I shall shelter here with my family and cattle. It is indeed a safe place, I feel safer than earlier. Students also got a very good school building and it has increased the eagerness of poor students to stay in education.”
IMC Worldwide has over 40 years of project management experience and has built a wide portfolio of clients and projects globally, particularly in Asia and Africa.
