Innovation Manager – Frontier Technology Livestreaming

Consultant, Full-Time

The programme

The Frontier Technology Livestreaming programme, which is implemented by IMC, helps DFID to apply frontier tech to some of the biggest challenges in international development.

We are already testing the use of 3D printers to overcome supply chain challenges in Nepal, delivering sustainable water to rural communities in Tanzania using the Internet of things, and experimenting with alternative internet connectivity in Mozambique. These are just 3 of the 18 pilots we are working on and we have just been awarded the UK Civil Service Award for Innovation.

The role

We are looking for an Innovation Manager to join the team to help coach and support the projects to work quickly from paper to prototype to pilot, capture and communicate what they learn and connect them to what they need.

About you

  • You are a natural facilitator, with the confidence to help teams tease apart their facts, opinions and guesses. You find smart, incremental ways to validate their key assumptions. You enjoy enabling innovation in others.
  • You know that innovation is about managing uncertainty and risk accountably, measurably and as such you are able to hold project teams to account, while always being on their side.
  • You know innovation methodology like human-centred design  and lean startup but you are no purist and believe in blending the right tools for the circumstance.
  • You can act strategically, entrepreneurially on behalf of the project teams, making connections and joining useful jobs for them.
  • You will enjoy travelling and working with grassroots innovators in developing countries.

This is a middleweight role for someone with <10 years experience who is looking for a potentially career and life-defining opportunity.
