Wessel draws on his multidisciplinary background in social and environmental sciences applied in the context of International Development in supporting IMC’s business streams with business development and project backstopping support.
During his studies, he acquired socio-environmental fieldwork experience in Namibia and Brazil, and gained his first professional experience supporting the Dutch consulate in São Paulo supporting the organisation of trade missions and conducting research on business opportunities.
Before joining IMC, Wessel gained experience in international development through a variety of voluntary roles, including research and translations for the United Nations, and he spent 5 months in Rwanda fundraising and partnership building for a local NGO focused on rural development.
In his current role, Wessel contributed to the preparation of successful bids for donor-funded projects, and strengthened his project management skills in the delivery of a project supporting the World Bank in the development of a knowledge base on social enterprises. At present, he is responsible for the financial and contractual management of the £11m DFID funded Ideas to Impact Programme (2014-2019).
