India, Africa: Low-cost green housing

India and sub-Saharan Africa face shortages in good quality shelter for their low-income populations. One of the main objectives of the project was to develop a pilot for a scalable technical and financial model for green low-cost housing to address this issue.

The strategy emerged out of detailed analysis of the low-income and affordable housing market in India, evaluation of applicable green technologies and systems, evaluation of past successes and failures, and extensive discussions with stakeholders. The stakeholders included representatives from all the segments involved in the design, development, construction, operation, and financing of low-cost housing in the country.
